Enterprise Week
Session 3
Session 3 was ran by Sean O'Brian, a graduate from Leeds Trinity, who found a job within TV just 3 days after graduation. The session he ran was called 'A career in TV - BBC and Zodiac Media'.
I found this session interesting because working in Television is something im particuarly interested in. O'Brian talked about the work he has been contracted to do for various TV show such as Britains Got Talent, Snog Marry and Avoid and Big Brother.
Sean managed to get a job for the BBC through their careers page on the website and applying through there and was lucky enough to be taken on, a job that 650 applied for. After working at the BBC for awhile he switched over to working on Saturday night entertainment within the company, here he would pitch ideas for new shows aswell as brainstorm with writers to create new shows.
After the BBC Sean moved to Zodiac Media, a brand responsible for shows like the Inbetweeners and the Secret Millionaire, Sean continued to brainstorm ideas for shows for the company, similar to his work at the BBC.
Sean was very honest about his experiences within the industry, he talked about how it was working with celebrities and working within such a fascinating industry, aswell as this side he talked about the cons of working within the industry, the rejection that comes with the job, the potentially long hours that come with it, he also talked about how working with Celebrities can sometimes be a bad thing because of the 'Diva's' you can often end up working with.
Sean finished by saying how fortunate we are knowing that this is the path we want to take so early, as the perfect demographic for TV industry is 16-34 so being within the age range we know what the audiences want and can reflect that when working within the industry.
